  • What is the overall process for ordering memorial jewellery?
Once you’ve selected a design, you need to decide on a colour. There is a colour chart attached to each listing with 50 colours to choose from. The shade of the colour can vary slightly depending on the colour of the ashes. During checkout you will need to enter your chosen colour and enter a name for the ashes (this is needed for the Ashes certificate). When you have completed checkout you will need to send the ashes to our studio. All details are given on the confirmation email that you will receive. We will need approximately one teaspoon measure of ashes per item ordered and they will need to be placed in a secure sealable bag and taped for extra security. The postal service you use is your own preference. Tracking will ensure you know where the ashes are at all times although a regular stamp will still mean the ashes should reach us without any problems. When we receive the ashes, we will inform you to put your mind at rest and get to work with creating your order. Our aim is to despatch orders within 5 - 10 days of receiving the ashes. Orders are sent via royal mail using a signed for service and takes around 1 - 3 days for delivery. Along with your order we send a little keepsake and any remaining ashes.
  • What quantities of ashes are required?
For single purchases I ask for approximately 1 teaspoon measure. I can work with smaller quantities if required. For orders of two items or more I require 1 tablespoon measure. For orders of more than six items, we will need to agree an amount depending on the number of items. All ashes and fur/hair are treated respectfully and handled carefully. Any remaining materials are returned to you with your order.
  • What is the process for sending Ashes, Hair or Fur?"
The materials will need to be packaged in a sealed bag and its always good to tape up the seal for extra measure. Use a padded envelope to protect the materials as a non padded envelope will result in tears and spillage as it passes through the postal system. The postal method you use to send the materials are really your own preference but for peace of mind it is recommended that you use a tracked service. Once I receive the materials, I always inform the customer to put their mind at rest. SamFire is based in Ironbridge, Shropshire and the address is sent to you within the order confirmation email.
  • How do I choose a colour?
Each listing has a colour chart attached for you to choose from. There are 50 colours available plus gold, silver and rose gold. The colour you choose will provide a base colour and the ashes will either lighten or darken the final shade. Have a look at all the listings for examples as the actual colour is written in the description. I can add glitter, glitter flakes or gold leaf at your request.
  • Do you have any advice on looking after my memorial Jewellery?
Resin jewellery is pretty hard-wearing but to get the best out of your pieces and ensure they last a lifetime please adhere to the following advice. This will keep your pieces looking their best. Water Do NOT submerge your jewellery pieces in water. Resin isn't waterproof, only water resistant. So please remember to remove your jewellery before showers, swimming, washing up etc. Water will cause blistering and yellowing and will generally dull your piece. Sunlight Store your jewellery in the presentation box it came in with the lid on, out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the resin to discolour (yellowing) and soften or bubble. Chemicals Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. This includes perfume, hair spray, cleaning solutions, nail polish remover, antibacterial hand sanitiser etc. Solvents will react with the epoxy and cause it to become scaly, yellow, chip or break down completely. Scrapes Try to avoid bumping and scratching or sleeping in your resin jewellery. This could damage your jewellery piece. If your piece has an accident, pop us a photo and we will give you some advice. We can try to repair or recast for a fee, including pieces from other makers, so long as the resin has not had a reaction to something. Smoking If your piece is in regular contact with smoke it will usually yellow. However, some of our smoking resin jewellery clients have worn their pieces for years without discolouration.
  • Will my order look the same as the photographs in the listings?
The ashes portion of your order can differ from the photographs in the listings. This is because ashes come in all shapes and sizes with varying colours too. Sometimes bigger ashes will be present but if the ashes are fine you will barely see them at all. There is a good selection of various types of ashes throughout our listings which will give you a good idea of how your piece could look. If you're looking for a specific style then please let me know when you order otherwise, I allow the ashes to present themselves as they wish.
  • Do I need to know my ring size?
For all jewellery the size of the items is always in the description. Most of the rings are adjustable unless otherwise stated. Adjustable rings are sturdy and hold their shape once carefully sized to your finger. It means I can offer the same design to all sizes and as your fingers change shape, the ring with change with you.
